Why Is Temperature Tracking Important In Kids And Adults?
Thermometers are nothing but devices which help in checking our body temperature, it is also known as Body Temperature Checker. As we know, human body temperature fluctuates throughout the day. To keep track of your child’s or your body temperature, you should pay attention to their or your body temperature at different times of the day. Temperature tracking is important for every adult and/or child.
In recent times temperature tracking has become more important for both kids and adults due to the present situation. Covid has made people understand the importance of staying fit. Nowadays if someone is caught with fever it’s very important to check the temperature before assuming anything.
Types of thermometers:
Digital thermometers
Digital thermometers (Electronic thermometers) are known as the fastest and most accurate type of thermometer. Temperature readings are usually taken from under the tongue, from the rectum, or under the armpit. They are easily found in local medical stores as well as in online stores and can be used at home or in the hospital.
Infrared thermometers
These thermometers can also read heat using infrared, and are placed on the forehead. Forehead thermometers or Infrared thermometers are also not as reliable as digital thermometers.
Mercury thermometers
These Body Temperature Checkers are the old-school way to take the temperature. The readings for a mercury thermometer are normally done by placing it under our tongue or armpit and watching the mercury rise, once it stops, that would be our temperature. But these kinds of thermometers are of less use these days.
Importance of temperature tracking during Covid-19:
Coronavirus has made us understand how important it is to track our body temperature which can provide us with an early warning of fever and infection. Body temperature is an early, warning sign of any infection. Fever is one of your body’s first reactions to getting infected and is also common in illnesses like COVID-19. Monitoring our body temperature using a Body Temperature Meter, even when we are healthy, can help us detect disease early. Part of our brain called the hypothalamus continually adjusts our body temperature to take care of an optimal environment for our body functions. Body temperature also varies with gender, age, overall health, and even environmental factors.
A normal temperature is around 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit, recent studies indicated it as a slightly lower average. A temperature higher than 100 degrees Fahrenheit indicates that our body is fighting an infection. By regularly monitoring our body temperature and learning what is normal for us, we can immediately detect slightly higher temperatures. This might be an early warning sign that we are about to get sick as our body remains weak and has a chance of getting infected, so it is better to take immediate measures to protect ourselves and also to protect others from critical diseases like COVID-19 where we are contagious several days before showing up any symptoms.
So, it is advised to take temperature twice a day, daily around the same time of day, once in the morning and again in the evening. It is also recommended to use the same Body Temperature Meter for each reading and avoid having anything hot or cold for at least 15 minutes beforehand, and not take the temperature immediately after exercising.
Why is it important to track temperature for kids?
Babies or Kids often catch fever due to various reasons. Sometimes slight fever is not of great tension as it causes no harm and is a good thing as it is a sign that the body is fighting with the infection and having antibodies but high fever sometimes is a sign of a problem and needs a doctor’s attention.
Babies often get a fever but one of the major reasons is due to the wetness of their diapers which reaches their lungs and often causes pneumonia. So doctors suggest taking their reading daily so that the parents can keep a track of their health and by seeing a slight temperature rise can take necessary steps so that it does not cause major harm for the child’s health.
Thermometers (Body Temperature Checker) used these days:
Mercury thermometers are becoming obsolete these days, people are more prone to use Electronic thermometers as it gives the correct and accurate reading. Electronic thermometers are a temperature sensing instrument that is easily portable and has permanent probes, it is also convenient for digital display. The way an electronic thermometer works depends upon its type of sensor.
Stiora Digital thermometers are equipped with a Reading beeper alert and also are combined with a display screen which helps us in easy reading. It also has an option to switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit which makes it easier for people of different preferences. It also has an auto switch-off mode which saves the battery and enhances the life expectancy of the device. It also has a zig-zag pattern on the device that gives it a firm grip during use of the device.
